Over on the Space: 1999 fan site Eagle Transporter.com, there's a posted report on an event from September with Douglas Trumbull, in which he confirmed that the behind-the-scenes documentary on the making of 2001: A Space Odyssey is no longer happening. That we already knew. The more interesting thing however, is that Trumbull indicated that some 17 minutes worth of footage was cut from the film before its theatrical release by director Stanley Kubrick, and that Warner has discovered that footage in their film vaults. Hopefully, at least THAT much will find its way onto Warner's new Blu-ray release, due sometime next year. Special thanks to Bits reader Bruce P. for the link.

A number of you have asked what additional catalog titles we might see released on Blu-ray from MGM next year. As you know, the studio just officially unveiled the U.S. BD release of a Thelma & Louise: 20th Anniversary Edition (due on 2/8) and Last Tango in Paris (due 2/15). Well... sources tell us that among the titles likely for release in high-def in early 2011 are Blue Velvet, Rain Man, Four Weddings and a Funeral and Dead Man Walking. All four titles are already announced for Blu-ray release in France by MGM in February. So it's likely you'll see them follow in the States in the coming months as well.

Scarface, Jurassic Park Trilogy Blu-ray in 2011
During an extended interview with French site Ecranlarge.com, Eric Legay, marketing director for Universal France, revealed some of the catalog movies that the studio intends to release on Blu-ray in 2011, which prominently include the Jurassic Park trilogy and Brian DePalma's Scarface, along with some westerns and more Hitchcock.
The studio will also release some westerns on Blu-ray, including Winchester 73, Shenandoah and High Plains Drifter (apparently one of two movies starring Clint Eastwood that the studio plans to release this year).
Universal will also continue releasing Alfred Hitchcock movies on Blu-ray, but Legay noted that the flow of titles might be limited by the need to remaster them with the same level of quality as Psycho

Some Like It Hot, The Hustler, More Catalog Fox/MGM on Blu-ray
According to information from retail giant Walmart, 20th Century Fox will follow up its Blu-ray onslaught with a wave of titles from the MGM catalog, including Some Like It Hot (Billy Wilder, 1959) for May 10. Fox proper will release The Hustler (50th Anniversary) (Robert Rossen, 1961) on May 17. Both will carry an MSRP of $34.99 and thus are likely to be presented in special-edition DigiBooks.
Fox/MGM will also visit the western, with The Horse Soldiers (John Ford, 1959) on May 10 and The Comancheros (50th Anniversary) (Michael Curtiz, 1961) a week later, and the war genre, with Platoon (Oliver Stone, 1986) hitting BD also on May 17, and Tigerland (Joel Schumacher, 2000) on May 24.
And there's more: fans of the Coen brothers will hit the roof when they know that not only is Miller's Crossing coming up, but also is Raising Arizona.
