Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Return of the Living Dead Blu-ray

Early retailer alerts indicate that MGM will add to the pre-Halloween glut of horror titles with two titles from its catalog: Invasion of the Body Snatchers (Philip Kaufman, 1978) and The Return of the Living Dead (Dan O'Bannon, 1985). Both have a street date of September 14. There is no information on technical specifications or special features at the moment.

Sources from Warner Home Video have revealed to The Digital Bits that the studio is currently preparing Stanley Kubrick's Lolita and Barry Lyndon for Blu-ray release in 2011. They will probably be released both separately and also as part of a new Stanley Kubrick Blu-ray Collection box set.

SteelBook Blu-ray Wave in Canada

On November 2, Alliance Films will re-release ten films from its catalog in SteelBook packaging: A History of Violence, Hot Fuzz, Kill Bill: Volume 1, Kill Bill: Volume 2, Law Abiding Citizen, Memento, Pan's Labyrinth, Shaun of the Dead, Sin City and Traffic. Disc details are the same as for the existing Blu-ray editions in conventional packaging.

Spider-Man 1 and 2 Get Separate Blu-ray Releases (Update)

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 for Blu-ray release on November 16. Until now, the first two Spidey movies were only available as part of the box set Spider-Man: The High Definition Trilogy, released in October 2007. Contrary to previous information, no additional special features will be included.

Going from the back cover information, Spider-Man will be totally devoid of extras, and Spider-Man will include Spider-Man 2.1, with additional footage and extended fight sequences not seen in the theater.

Uno studio di Futuresource anticipa i trend di vendita nel Q4 del 2010

Le vendite di lettori Blu-ray, escluse le consolle Sony PS3, si prevede che toccheranno quota 24 milioni di unità nelle tre regioni chiave per la crescita dell’alta definizione: Usa, Europa e Giappone. Lo afferma il nuovo studio condotto da Futuresource Consulting. Secondo Jack Wetherill, Research Consultant di Futuresource, “nel Q4 del 2009, periodo di cruciale importanza, le vendite hanno rappresentato quasi la metà di tutti i lettori Bd venduti globalmente nel 2009, e il trend di crescita continua, con le nostre proiezioni che mostrano una tendenza di crescita per il 2010 superiore all’80%”. Futuresource prevede quindi nell’ultimo trimestre di quest’anno il raggiungimento di oltre 11 milioni di unità vendute. "Le vendite di televisori HD e 3D ready, accompagnate da drastiche riduzioni dei prezzo dei player Bd continuano a alimentare interesse per l'alta definizione”, aggiunge Wetherill. Almeno il 10% di tutti i player Blu-ray venduti saranno predisposti al 3D, e questa percentuale salirà nel 2011 a oltre il 25%. Entro il 2014, quasi il 40% delle case in Europa occidentale, Usa e Giappone -saranno dotate di un lettore 3D Blu ray, o un impianto home theater con queste caratteristiche.

Warner US BD Catalogue in February

Warner Home Video have announced the US Blu-ray Disc release of a trio of catalogue titles on 1st February 2011. Targeting Valentine’s Day shoppers they have 10, Pleasantville and You’ve Got Mail priced at $19.98 SRP each.

Blue Underground Boss Announces Upcoming Blu-ray Titles

In an interview with AVManiacs.com/The Cinefiles, William Lustig, president of Blue Underground and director of Maniac and Vigilante, revealed some titles coming up on Blu-ray from the independent label. They include Lucio Fulci's Zombie and House by the Cemetery, and three Dario Argento Films: Cat O'Nine Tails, Inferno and Deep Red.

These releases will benefit from brand-new 2K transfers and new special features.

However, Lustig confirmed that Blue Underground wouldn't be releasing Suspiria, as the studio doesn't own the rights to that Argento title.

Camelot, Singin’ in the Rain, What Ever Happened to Baby Jane Blu-ray in 2012

Warner Home Video has announced that it plans to release three major catalog titles on Anniversary Blu-ray editions in 2012: Singin' in the Rain (Stanley Donen/Gene Kelly, 1952), What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (Robert Aldrich, 1962), and Camelot (Joshua Logan, 1967). To build demand, the DVD editions of all three movies will be put on moratorium starting December 31, 2010.
